Georgia Nursing Schools and Allied Health Programs
Georgia's nursing and allied health worker shortage is one of the worst nationwide, Find
Schools
Now particularly in the rural areas. Statistics indicate Georgia has one of the lowest per capita nurse rates, placing it among the bottom one-fourth nationwide, and Georgia's population is expected to grow 20% over the next decade. Like many other states, a shortage of Nurse Educators and classroom space only worsen the problem resulting in significant numbers of qualified applicantsbeing turned away from nursing schools each year. Distance education options help allieviate the problems by offering a means of internal workforce development through accredited online LPN to RN/BSN programs, RN to BSN programs, and online MSN programs. Georgia hopes to grow its own faculty and bridge the critical need for additional RN's, Nurse Educators, and Nurse Practitioners through distance education programs.Georgia has taken a state-wide multi-organizational approach to solving this shortage of health care professionals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates that, by 2020, Georgia will need 37,000 additional nurses, and up to one million more nurses will be needed nationally. As the population ages and lives longer, demand for health care services is increasing faster than the supply of the health care workforce, particularly in high-demand professions such as nursing.
Average Nursing Base Salaries:
| Nursing Assistant: $22,117 - $27,665 | Licensed Practical Nurse: $37,443 - $45,900 |
